"What a beautiful park this was--my family used to enjoy it. Us kids would romp around the "lakes," and climb among the little streams feeding the pools. You could sit out on the rocks around the pools among all the vegetation. It was lovely. Your pictures don't do it justice. I've been wondering if anyone had good pictures of it. Has the Stocking family given any pictures? Those pools have got to still be there--they can't have moved all that rock, just covered it, right?" -- from Laurie Travis, great granddaughter of DH Day, 06/22/13.

Thanks Laurie for the first submission to our comments section. We hope more people will write in and tell us about their experiences with the picnic area. Sorry about our pictures, they are all we have been able to find, so far. Yes, the pools are still there--though rumor has it the bottom of the pools were intentionally cracked to prevent water retention. Then the pools were filled with sand and dirt. If you walk around the pools you can tell by the different color of the dirt where the pools are, and you can also tell by the rock outlines that are still visible. Our hope is to once again open this area to picnicking and somehow make the lakes/pools more visible!
